Patrick Mouratoglou

Patrick Mouratoglou is founder and head coach of the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy (MTA) in Paris. Founded in 1996, it now has the reputation of being among the best in the world. MTA is based on an original philosophy: "to give the best, we take only the best".

Background

Born in Paris on June 8, 1970, Patrick Mouratoglou long had the goal of pursuing a professional tennis career. He finally had to take another direction despite his level, which ranked him amongst the best French junior players at the age of 15. This frustration strengthened his desire to never stray from his vision: winning Grand Slams and reaching the top in this sport. After completing business studies, he obtains his coaching degree and goes on to founding his own Tennis Academy at 26 years old. If he couldn’t become a tennis champion himself, then he would train and prepare players to become champions.

First Achievements

With his first group of players, he accumulated victories with Paul-Henri Mathieu, Ivo Karlovic, Gilles Muller, Marcos Baghdatis, Mario Ancic, Hicham Arazi, Pauline Parmentier and Nicolas Kiefer among others. Since 2000, he has gained numerous junior titles, including 2 Junior World Championship Titles and one Europe Champion title, reaching finals in 8 Junior Grand Slams.

His motivating, atypical idea was to offer personalized training to handpicked athletes, whereas other training centers or academies were offering a system based on natural selection by bringing together a large number of players.

Coaching : first results, first success

On top of running the Academy, Patrick Mouratoglou coaches selected players who come forward with a project that interests him:

In October 2004, he becomes Marcos Baghdatis' coach and takes him him from No.250 in the ATP rankings to No.50 in one year.

"He gave me everything a professional athlete could hope for. He is a patient man who follows his path while always remaining faithful to his convictions, even if he is the only one to believe in them" - Marcos Baghdatis

Then, from December 2006 to July 2007, Patrick coaches Julia Vakulenko (23 years old and N°120 in the WTA rankings). Within six months, she reached N°33 with victories over Kim Clijsters, Amélie Mauresmo and Dinara Safina.

"Patrick likes people. He has a big heart. He is very professional and a very hard-worker who advances without fear of failure. He has greatly helped me plan my training sessions and has taught me how to develop a mental game on the court. He believes in me and that means a lot to me. I am very grateful to him for everything he does in tennis, not only with me, but also with everyone else" - Julia Vakulenko

From July 2007 to August 2009, Patrick works with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (born in 1991, Junior World Champion in 2006). Ranked No.300 WTA in January 2008, by June she had become the youngest player in the Top 100 and had reached the Top 50 by the end of that same year.
